This post is nothing more than a dump of my favorite titles, series that have inspired me and / or given me so much joy (and occasional heartbreak) over the years.
English books/shows/movies:
THE SILMARILLION, THE HOBBIT, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, UNFINISHED TALES – J. R. R. Tolkien
HIS DARK MATERIALS – Philip Pullman
THE WHEEL OF TIME – Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson
THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA – C. S. Lewis
INHERITANCE CYCLE – Christopher Paolini
BROKEN EARTH TRILOGY – N. K. Jemisin
ELANTRIS, MISTBORN, YUMI AND THE NIGHTMARE PAINTER – Brandon Sanderson
THE EARTHSEA CYCLE – Ursula K. Le Guin
THE KINGKILLER CHRONICLE - Patrick Rothfuss
…and of course George R. R. Martin’s A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, the completion of which, I, like many others, have been eagerly awaiting.
More recently, I’ve also fallen in love with Fonda Lee's GREEN BONE SAGA, R. F. Kuang’s BABEL, and Christopher Ruocchio's SUN EATER series.
Indian epics:
THE MAHABHARATA (including, of course, THE BHAGAVAD GITA)
THE RAMAYANA
SRIMAD BHAGAVATAM
…and various other Indian mythologies and folktales for which I don’t have specific titles (I read a lot of them as AMAR CHITRA KATHA graphic novels growing up).
Japanese manga/anime/animated films:
NARUTO – Masashi Kishimoto
SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN – Hajime Isayama
CODE GEASS – Ichiro Okuchi
HAGANE NO RENKINJUTSUSHI – Hiromu Arakawa
DEATH NOTE – Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata
POKEMON SPECIAL – Satoshi Tajiri
…as well as plenty of other anime and animated films, including PSYCHO PASS, MONONOKE-HIME, SEN TO CHIHIRO NO KAMIKAKUSHI, SHINSEKAI YORI, FREE!, KUROKO NO BASUKE, YURI!!! ON ICE, LOVE LIVE!, K-ON!, HAIKYUU!!, BLUE LOCK and OSHI NO KO.
I also recently watched a Chinese donghua called MO DAO ZU SHI which I absolutely adored; it made me feel things I hadn’t felt since I first discovered Naruto back in middle school.
